St. Simon Island Lighthouse


St. Simon Island Lighthouse

This lighthouse was designed by one of Georgia's most noted architect, Charles Cluskey. The tower is 104 feet tall, 129 steps to the top, and houses a third-order Fresnel lens.

Located on the Maryland shore of the Potomac River, it is the oldest lighthouse on the river.

Haig Point

Located on Dafuskie Island this lighthouse is owned by the Haig Point Community and is not open to the public.

Point Lookout


Point Lookout

Located at the mouth of the Potomac River on the Chesapeake Bay. Constructed in 1830 as a one-and-a-half story wooden and masonry building. It was rebuilt as a two-story structure in 1883 with the light at 40 feet. It was the location of a Civil War prison camp which imprisoned as many as 52,264 Confederate soldiers. Considered to be the most haunted lighthouse in Maryland.

Potomac Spillway

Just downstream from the locks a Great Falls Tavern, this is the small waterfall created by the spillway that diverts water around the locks
